The Creative Space is committed to serving and bring together the Salem community in multitude of ways.
Donation Classes
All of our classes will be offered for a "suggested donation" of $6-$15. However, in the true spirit of donation, classes will be free to anyone who wishes to attend but lacks the funds to do so. This "business model" of trusting in community donations to cover operating exposed had proved successful in a wide range of entities including inner city yoga studios and rural meditation centers. Salem, OR feels ripe for an explosion of creative consciousness and we are 100% confident this model will allow The Creative Space to sustain itself while also catering to a wider range of community members.
Classes taught by Women
The Creative Space supports women in community leadership roles and we consider fitness teachers and holistic healers to be at the leading edge of health and wellness leadership. In order to support woman sharing their passions for health, 56% of all class proceeds will go directly to the teacher/speaker/facilitator/healer. Standard studio practice for instructors is typically a 50/50 split (or sometimes more for the studio). The Creative Space supports individuals creating a sacred livelihood for themselves. We will fill the schedule with dynamic teachers from all parts of the community. Girl Power!
Childcare
Free childcare is a key component at the creative space. Moms and Dads will be able to move while their children are productively entertained. Rather than typical day-care toys, The Creative Space will feature education based games and activities designed to hold their attention for the length of the hour long classes. Memory game, puzzles, and crafts with shape and numbers will stimulate the minds of children ages 3-teen. The children's area will be overseen by volunteers in the community and will in the same room as the classes, possibly set up around the perimeter! The desire is to inspire connectedness between family members even when engaged in separate activities.
Family Friendly
In addition to childcare, older students can hang out and do their homework as well as volunteer to watch the young ones in exchange for free classes. With classes targeted at all ages groups, there is something for everyone in the family. The Creative Space is a space where families move, heal, and grow together.
Nutrition
The Creative Space is passionate about nutrition and healthy eating. In a world that promotes packaged and fast food, it's easy to get caught up in unhealthy eating habits. We believe knowledge is power and we will host regular talks and demonstrations on family nutrition. This includes how to's on grocery shopping, creating recipes with what is in the house, and tips on pre-preparing meals for the week in advance. Eating healthy is affordable and easy with a little preparation and know how. Through proper nutrition we can transform the health of our community.
Reiki Clinic
The Creative Space advocates alternative medicine and holistic healing. Once such healing practice is Reiki, a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. A weekly free/donation reiki clinic will offer reiki in a group setting volunteered by reiki practitioners and Masters from the Salem community.
Homeless & Veterans Outreach
The Creative Director of The Creative Space has a special pull to help the homeless, specifically veterans. A chance encounter with Robert, a homeless alcoholic veteran, turned into a heart opening that has changed the lives of both Lynn and Robert. Through this non-profit Lynn has led the way in getting Robert sober and living a lovely little apartment paid for by the Veterans Administration, and working a job that utilizes his skills. It has been a rewarding journey navigating a complex maze of facilities, case workers, and paper work. The Creative Space will continue to assist more individuals in securing a stable home environment.
